Contest Rules (as of Nov 19/09)
In order to be eligible to submit a video entry in the RU Ryerson contest, your submission must be no longer than three (3) minutes in length, does not, in any way, violate Ryerson University's Student Codes of Academic and Non-Academic conduct, must respect the Discrimination and Harassment Prevention Policy, must meet all contest technical requirements listed on the Technical Guidelines, must contain only your original material or material that you have permission to use, and must be approved by a panel of judges. At the time of submission you must also provide your my.ryerson user name, telephone number, name of the video, and e-mail address, and indicate if you have reached the age of majority (18 or 19 years old depending on the province you reside in) before submitting your video.

Discrimination and Harassment Prevention Policy. Visit the DHPS Policy site or download the official Policy.
Your submission must be original to you or you must have all the necessary rights in and to the video and all of its components to enter the video in the contest. For example, you must have permission to use any and all pictures, photographs, and/or music contained in your video. There are some websites that provide music that is claimed to be in the public domain. While you can use music found on openmusicarchive.com; musopen.com; incompetech.com and opsound.org, you will need to ensure that you comply with any requirements of those sites (such as crediting and/or share-alike licensing), and agree that you (and not Ryerson University) is responsible for any claims brought as a result of your use of music from those sites.
Your submission cannot contain any reference to or identifiable likeness of any third parties, unless consent has been obtained from all such individuals (NOTE: if a video contains any third parties who are under the age of majority in their province or territory of residence, then you must get consent from that person’s parent or legal guardian). Try to ensure that no one is wearing branded clothing (where the logo is visible) in the video, or try to blur our any brand names that are visible. We may ask you to edit your video to remove any such branding if we deem it necessary.
Upon entering the contest, you retain copyright in the video but agree to license unrestricted usage rights to Ryerson University to publish, display, reproduce, modify, edit or otherwise use the video in whole or in part for advertising or promoting the contest, Ryerson University, or for any other reason.
Eligibility
To enter the contest you must reside in Canada, must be currently enrolled in courses at Ryerson University (full-time, part-time, or Chang School), and must be of the age of majority in the province in which you reside at the time of your participation in the Contest. [Note: if you are under the age of majority (18 or 19 years old depending on the province you reside in) you must complete and submit a consent form with the signature/authorisation of your guardian].
The Age of Majority Consent Form can be dropped off in person at the Student Information and Advising Centre [POD 144] or by fax at 416-542-5871.
This contest is void where prohibited by law.
For team submissions, each member involved with the entry must provide their my.ryerson user name before submitting. Teams must also assign one of its members to serve as the primary contact/representative and to provide all the information about the entry.
The RU Ryerson planning committee reserves the right to, at any time, revoke the eligibility of any submission, modify or edit any video, or to request that you modify or edit your video, if a complaint is received with respect to the video, or for any other reason.
General Regulations
The prize winner shall agree, if requested by Ryerson University, to have his or her name and picture used for promotional material related directly or indirectly with this Contest and/or in association with your video submission, free of charge.
The prize shall be accepted "as is." No substitutions will be allowed.
By participating in this Contest, all entrants (including the prize winners) agree to release and hold harmless Ryerson University from any and all liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses or damages of any kind to any person or property arising either directly or indirectly from the participation in the RU Ryerson? contest and use and/or misuse of any of prize awarded pursuant to the Contest. Participation in this Contest includes acceptance of these Contest Regulations. All decisions made by Ryerson University are final.
These Contest Regulations are available on the RU Ryerson? Web site (http://www.ruryerson.ca) and any breach of the rules and regulations of these Contest Regulations by an entrant shall result in disqualification.
Submitting
Entries must be submitted between Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 12:01AM and Sunday, February 14, 2010 at 11:59PM (the "Closing Date").
In order to be eligible, your submission must be no longer than three (3) minutes in length (excluding credits), must meet all contest requirements, and must be approved by a panel of judges. When submitting you are agreeing to all contest rules and regulations and terms and conditions of the RU Ryerson? Contest.
Procedure for Awarding Prizes
All submissions will be viewed by a panel to ensure eligibility before being made available for viewing and voting. The panel will also select the top 10 finalists.
The Top 10 finalists will be revealed on February 26, 2010.
The public voting period for the Top 10 will open on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 12:01AM. The voting period will close on Friday, March 5,, 2010. The Top 3 will be determined by number of votes.
Anyone with an active my.ryerson on line identity can vote once for the best video. If it is discovered that attempts were made to vote more than once from a my.ryerson online identity, then all votes associated with that identity address will be void. Use of any automated, script, macro or robotic program to submit votes may result in the disqualification, in the sole discretion of Ryerson University, of the submission to which such votes relate.
On March 10, 2010 in Toronto, Ontario, the ten videos will be screened for the public and the top three winning videos will be revealed.
For winning submissions by individuals, prizes will be awarded to the my.ryerson ID that was used to enter. For winning submissions by teams, prizes will be awarded to the primary my.ryerson ID attached to the entry. Ryerson University does not take any responsibility for the disbursement of winnings amongst members of any team submissions, if applicable.
Description of Prizes
Prizes:
1st prize (eligible submission with the highest number of votes): $5000
2nd prize (eligible submission with the second highest number of votes): $2500
3rd prize (eligible submission with the third highest number of votes): $1500
All prizes will be payable by cheque.
The prize includes only what is specifically described and no other allowances will be granted.
Before being awarded a prize, each potential winner must first correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question and must sign (and if a minor, have his/her parent or legal guardian sign) a release form (including the licensing rights set out in these rules) provided by Ryerson University.
